Sally Ride Memorial Art

August 9, 2012

“Thus Shall You Go to the Stars”

Dr. Sally Ride passed away recently.  She was the first American woman in space, and she was an inspiration to a lot of people.  In response to her death, my friend Casey Conan — to whom Sally Ride was particularly inspirational — made the art above.

I think it is pretty fantastic, so this is what I want I am going to do.

EXCITING NEWS!

August 9, 2012

My play, Glossolalia, is one of the 40 finalists in the Samuel French Off-Off Broadway Short Play Festival (SFOOBSPF, I guess?).  My friend Casey made me a poster to help advertise it.

I like it.  My understanding is that I will actually have to battle in a kind of Thunderdome-style competition with the other playwrights, so I am practicing my swinging-a-chainsaw-while-attached-to-bungee-cords as we speak.

EMPRESS OF THE MOON TO PREMIERE IN ONE WEEK!

August 6, 2010

Empress of the Moon is the first production undertaken by the Iron Age’s new SOE.

A new play by Chris Braak (author of The Life of John Henry), Empress of the Moon is a grossly historically-inaccurate portrayal of British, Restoration playwright Aphra Behn, the first woman to make her living as a professional writer. It features SWORDFIGHTS and DISGUISES, and explores the mutable nature of identity and what we use to create our own histories.

Empress of the Moon opens on August 13th, at the Second Stage Theater at the Adrienne. NOT ONLY THAT! Opening night of Empress of the Moon will be livecast on www.io9.com.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream!

April 18, 2010

Largely a successful venture, if I do say so myself:  I am presently performing as Demetrius in A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Philadelphia Shakespeare Theatre.  Attend, at once!

Here is a review of it in the Inquirer.

Theatrical Presentations

March 31, 2009

Feeling like the Website Experience just isn’t ENOUGH experience?  You might be interested in attending some theater in Philadelphia, then!

You can see Chris Braak in Iron Age Theater’s production of Birdy, by Naomi Wallace.  This is NOT Bye-Bye Birdie.  It is a completely different play, though about equally homoerotic.

You can ALSO see the dramatic version of “The Locked Eye,” a one-act play about…uh…well, there’s ghosts, and a machine, and…look, it’s creepy.  Just go on over to Vagabond Acting Troupe’s One-Act Play Festival and have a look.
